14-Year-Old Fatally Stabbed in Bronx Playground Brawl

Teenager Killed in Stabbing During Bronx Playground Brawl

A 14-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in a violent altercation at a playground in the Bronx, with police reporting that another 17-year-old was also repeatedly wounded in the same incident. Several individuals were detained, but no charges have been filed yet.

Responding shortly after 7:30 p.m., officers found the young teen suffering from multiple stab wounds at Williamsbridge Oval Park in Norwood. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center but was pronounced dead before 9 p.m.

The 17-year-old was also injured, sustaining wounds to his shoulder and abdomen. He was transported privately to Montefiore Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities recovered at least one knife and a firearm from the scene. Five suspects are in custody, though no formal charges have been issued. Witnesses noted that a group on bikes had been bothering park-goers shortly before the violence erupted, and weapons were found among the evidence collected by detectives, who scoured the park with flashlights late into the night.

Community members expressed shock, especially since the park, which was renovated for $10 million in 2021, typically feels safe. One local resident, 21, said, “It’s not usual to see something this violent here, especially involving a young kid.”

The area has seen previous violence, including a 2021 stabbing of a 14-year-old and a shooting death of an 18-year-old near the park in May.

Historically, Williamsbridge Oval has seen violence, including a 2022 incident where a 66-year-old man was murdered there. Despite regular police patrols, the park remains a site of concern for residents.
