Pam Bondi Launches Strike Force Over 2016 Trump-Russia Probe Flaws

Investigation Launched into Flaws in 2016 Russia Election Probe

The Attorney General has established a special team to examine newly declassified intelligence findings suggesting significant flaws in the Obama-era investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

This review will scrutinize evidence compiled by a top intelligence official, which reportedly included questionable information from the now-discredited Steele dossier, funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

“We are committed to thoroughly investigating these troubling disclosures to ensure accountability,” the Attorney General stated.

Earlier this month, the FBI began probing former CIA Director John Brennan and ex-FBI Director James Comey for potential misconduct linked to the Trump-Russia investigation. CIA Director John Ratcliffe also provided additional evidence indicating lapses in the intelligence assessments, including warnings ignored about the dossier’s reliability.

Documents show that Brennan dismissed concerns about the dossier’s credibility, asking, “Doesn’t it ring true?” despite warnings from experienced CIA officers. The dossier was reportedly still included in the final intelligence report, contrary to earlier claims that it was not relied upon.

Further allegations suggest that then-President Obama personally directed the creation of the 2017 intelligence assessment, aiming to shape a narrative that favored Clinton’s victory and undermined Trump. In contrast, a bipartisan 2020 report concluded that Russia aimed to weaken faith in the U.S. electoral process, regardless of candidate preference.

The new claims question whether Russia sought Trump’s victory, with some reports indicating Putin expected Clinton to win and held back compromising material. Nevertheless, subsequent investigations by special counsels Mueller and Durham debunked extensive claims of collusion.

Critics, including former officials, dismiss the recent findings as politically motivated. A spokesperson for Obama called the allegations “ridiculous,” emphasizing the importance of protecting national security secrets.

Amid these disputes, numerous officials involved have retained legal counsel, and political leaders remain divided over the accusations, with some viewing the revelations as a betrayal of the integrity of U.S. intelligence operations.
