Subway Manager Locks Up 10-Year-Old Girl in Store Over Mopped Floor, Officials Say
Subway Manager Arrested for Locking Girl in Back Room in Florida
A manager at a Subway in Jacksonville, Florida, was taken into custody after allegedly confining a 10-year-old girl in a back room following an incident involving a wet floor. The girl had entered the store with her mother and stepped on a freshly mopped area, prompting the manager, James Anthony Morris Jr., 33, to react.
According to authorities, Morris grabbed the girl’s hand and led her into a back room, locking the door behind her. During this, he reportedly told her that her parents were “trash and terrible people” and tightened his grip on her hand. Initially, the girl’s mother thought the situation was a joke, but panic ensued when she was unable to open the door.
The mother then attempted to open the door herself and, when blocked by Morris, a struggle ensued. She eventually managed to pry the door open while shouting for help. The girl later described feeling terrified, believing she was being kidnapped.
An employee at the restaurant witnessed Morris pull the girl away and heard the commotion, describing his behavior as “weird.” Morris refused to speak with police but was charged with falsely imprisoning a child under 13. He was detained and later released on a $5,000 bond.
The incident has been scheduled for a court hearing on August 13.
