Girl, 5, Killed by Twin Brother in Accidental Shooting; Mother Faces Murder Charges

A tragic incident in Georgia resulted in the death of a 5-year-old boy, Jeremiah Emmanuel George Jr., who was unintentionally shot by his twin brother. The child’s mother, La’Necia Bennett, has been arrested and charged with murder for allegedly leaving her loaded handgun unsecured at their home.

The accident occurred while the children were playing in their mother’s bedroom. The twins came across a firearm hidden inside a black purse on her nightstand. According to authorities, the younger brother grabbed the weapon and accidentally shot Jeremiah in the chest. Emergency services responded swiftly, but Jeremiah succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police at the scene of the shooting.
The incident took place in the residence of La’Necia Bennett. She has been charged with murder.

Police determined that Bennett was present during the incident and have placed her in custody without bond. Although she did not directly fire the weapon, she faces charges of second-degree murder due to alleged negligence in supervising her children.

Defense attorney Kim Frye explained, “She’s charged with murder because her failure to supervise properly led to his death, even if she didn’t physically pull the trigger.”
