Jakob Nowell Reveals He Had to Put His Cat Down Before Concert

Sublime’s Jakob Nowell Shares Emotional Moment Before Performance

Lead Singer Reveals He Had to Euthanize His Cat the Night Before

Singer Jakob Nowell of Sublime opened up to fans during a recent concert, sharing a personal and heartbreaking experience. He announced that he had to put down his beloved hairless cat, Creature, the night before his performance at the Vans Warped Tour in Long Beach.

Jakob described Creature as his “best f***ing friend” and admitted he wasn’t sure about performing that day. However, he reminded himself that music can be healing and perhaps help others facing their own struggles. During the show, Jakob also reflected on his father, Bradley Nowell, Sublime’s original lead vocalist, who tragically died from a heroin overdose in 1996. He expressed that playing with some of his late father’s close friends brought him comfort during this difficult time.

Since Bradley’s passing, Sublime had disbanded for a period, only performing occasionally with guest artists. The band reformed in 2023 with Jakob now serving as the frontman, and they recently released their new single “Ensenada,” marking the first track from their upcoming fourth album.

In his heartfelt message to fans, Jakob concluded by honoring Creature’s memory and stating, “Rest in peace, Creature — Sublime fans will never forget you!”
