Miami Woman Caught Smuggling Turtles in Her Bra
Traveler Attempt to Smuggle Turtles Through Airport Security
An incident at Miami International Airport involved a woman trying to smuggle two turtles in her bra, leading to a reminder from authorities about proper pet travel procedures and discouraging unusual concealment methods.
Authorities detained the woman after discovering the reptiles wrapped in gauze and plastic hidden inside her clothing. One of the turtles did not survive, but the other was seized and handed over to the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife for proper care.
The TSA shared photos of the confiscated turtles on social media, accompanied by a plea to travelers:
“Please refrain from hiding animals in strange places on your body and attempting to sneak them past security.”
The agency clarified that small pets are permitted to pass through security but must be removed from carriers and carried openly, not concealed under clothing. Travelers are advised to check with airlines about pet transport rules to ensure safe and legal travel.
This isn’t the first case of animal smuggling at airports. In March, another traveler was caught attempting to hide a turtle in his pants at Newark Liberty International Airport, highlighting ongoing concerns about pet safety and proper procedures during air travel.
