Trump’s Shocking Reaction to the Senate’s Minimum Wage Proposal – You Won’t Believe What He Said!
President Trump Expresses Uncertainty Over Minimum Wage Legislation
President Donald Trump indicated he was unsure about endorsing a recent proposal to increase the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour, led by Senator Josh Hawley. When asked about his support, Trump mentioned he had not yet reviewed the bill and planned to discuss it with Hawley, whom he described as a good friend.
The legislation, known as the Higher Wages for American Workers Act, was introduced last week alongside Senator Peter Welch. If enacted, it would more than double the current federal minimum wage, which sits at $7.25.
Currently, at least 31 states enforce wages above the federal minimum, including Missouri, Hawley’s home state. Trump remarked that opinions vary on the wage increase, with some asserting it might discourage business, especially in sectors like restaurants and retail, while others support it. He emphasized the need to consult Hawley, noting the senator’s positive reputation.
Supporters of the wage hike, including Hawley, view it as a “populist position,” aiming to benefit working Americans who have not seen a significant raise in years. Hawley framed the proposal as a move to align the political party with working-class concerns.
Interestingly, Hawley’s stance on raising the minimum wage aligns with broader populist economic initiatives he has supported recently. Earlier this year, he partnered with Senator Bernie Sanders to introduce legislation capping credit card interest rates at 10%. Additionally, Hawley recently voted against regulations on the cryptocurrency market, siding with progressive senators who believe tighter rules could favor large institutional investors over individual ones.
Hawley’s office declined to comment further on the legislation.
