Thomas Partey Likely to Leave Arsenal as Contract Negotiations Stall

Thomas Partey is reportedly prepared to depart from Arsenal after talks over a new contract reached a complete impasse. With his contract set to expire at the end of June, negotiations have come to a halt, and the Ghanaian midfielder is unlikely to extend his stay.

Having transferred to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid for £45 million in October 2020, Partey has made 167 appearances and scored nine goals for the club. Despite facing injuries that limited his involvement during the 2023-24 season, he played a key role in the team’s progression to the Champions League semi-finals under manager Mikel Arteta. Although he celebrated a victory in the 2023 Community Shield, he has yet to secure major trophies with Arsenal.

Arsenal is believed to be close to completing a £51 million deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as a replacement for Partey. The decision to leave seems to be influenced by personal considerations, as Partey has stated that his family will be a decisive factor in his future plans.

In an interview, Partey emphasized the importance of feeling at home and counting family happiness as a priority. He also noted that age and family commitments influence his decisions, adding he wants to enjoy his time in football.

On the pitch last season, Partey featured in all but three Premier League matches, contributing four goals and two assists. Reflecting on his performance, he expressed satisfaction, especially with his availability despite injuries, and highlighted his ongoing commitment to giving his best in every game.
