Tiger Woods’s Unforgettable Moment Despite Missing The Open
Tiger Woods’ Uncomfortable Moment at The Open After Crowd Cheers Three-Word Message
Although Tiger Woods is not competing at this year’s Open Championship, he remains a prominent figure in golf. During his recent appearance at the event, fans publicly supported him despite his absence from the competition.
Woods, the 15-time major champion widely considered one of the greatest golfers ever, is currently recovering from an Achilles injury sustained in March. His last PGA Tour appearance was at the 2024 Open at Royal Troon in Scotland. Due to ongoing rehab, Woods had played only a handful of tournaments before returning to the major last year.
As he set out for his first round, a crowd shouted in unison, “prove Monty wrong,” referencing comments by former golfer Colin Montgomerie. Montgomerie had recently suggested that Woods’ career should be coming to an end, citing a perceived decline in his passion and performance. He remarked that Woods looked uninspired during a tournament at Pinehurst and implied Woods was past his prime.
In response, Woods addressed Montgomerie’s criticisms during a pre-Championship press conference. He pointed out that, as a past champion, he has the privilege to decide when to retire, unlike Montgomerie, who is not a former winner and thus not exempt from age-related restrictions. Woods emphasized his continued confidence and motivation to compete.
Unfortunately, Woods’ return to The Open was short-lived, as he missed the cut after rounds of 79 and 77. This marked his third straight missed cut at a major tournament that season—and his last appearance in a PGA-sanctioned event so far.

The 15-time major winner endured a challenging round last year amid supportive fans.
