NYC Board of Elections Calls Brooklyn DA to Investigate Voter Fraud After Post Expose
Investigation Launched Over Suspected Voter Fraud in Brooklyn Primary Race
The Board of Elections has requested an investigation into potential voter fraud following the discovery of absentee ballots cast on behalf of deceased individuals in a tightly contested Brooklyn primary.
During a manual recount of votes in District 47, officials identified 22 ballots that were considered “potentially fraudulent,” including votes registered to people who had died over ten years ago. These ballots were subsequently invalidated and forwarded to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office for review.
The recount process, which began last Tuesday, showed a close race between Brooklyn GOP Chair Richie Barsamian and entrepreneur George Sarantopoulos. As of Friday, Sarantopoulos maintained a narrow 16-vote lead, slightly up from a 14-vote margin earlier in the week. The official tally was so close that the outcome could hinge on the investigation’s findings.
Sources revealed that personnel involved in the GOP primary in south Brooklyn had been reassigned amid the probe, and law enforcement officials seized devices from election workers as part of the inquiry.
The BOE had previously announced the election results would be certified after completing the recount. Meanwhile, Sarantopoulos expressed confidence, stating, “The people of this district deserve an election that is free, fair, and transparent.”
In response, the BOE assured the public that any irregularities detected were identified early, thoroughly investigated, and swiftly addressed, emphasizing their dedication to election integrity.
A representative from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office declined to comment on ongoing investigations. The situation underscores the importance of electoral safeguards and ongoing vigilance to protect democratic processes.
