In a disturbing incident late Wednesday night, a 16-year-old boy was assaulted in the staircase of a high-end residential building on the Upper West Side. Four unidentified attackers cornered him in a stairwell at Waterline Square, where luxury amenities include a fitness center, children’s play area, and creative studios. The assailants repeatedly slashed him in the back, as well as in the left wrist and shoulder. He was promptly taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The assailants fled on foot and remain at large. Authorities have not identified their ages, and no arrests have been made. The incident has shocked residents, with one building occupant expressing disbelief over the violence occurring in their neighborhood.

“I think this is horrible. It’s crazy to think this stuff is happening so close to home for me,” said resident Rafael Castro. “Generally, living in this building is a great experience, so something like this nearby is surprising.”

Some neighbors mentioned ongoing issues with young people in the area, adding to concerns about safety. Despite the violence, the building still offers a variety of amenities, including a rock climbing wall, squash courts, and a children’s playroom.

Earlier that day, a 14-year-old boy was shot in Brooklyn’s Cypress Hill neighborhood. The youth was struck in the left forearm and was in stable condition after being transported to the hospital. The Brooklyn incident, along with the Manhattan attack, highlights a troubling rise in youth-related violence across the city. Authorities continue to investigate both cases, with no suspects apprehended in either incident so far.
