Trump Combats ‘Woke AI’ with New Executive Orders
President Trump Signs Executive Orders Mandatory for Ethical and Neutral AI
President Donald Trump has signed three new executive orders focused on artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing the need for truthful and politically unbiased models. One key order bans federal agencies from purchasing AI systems that lack transparency or favor specific ideological perspectives, particularly those considered “woke” or aligned with “Marxist” ideas.
Trump stated that the American public and international allies are opposed to AI that promotes divisive or biased narratives, asserting, “They don’t want anything to do with it.” The orders stipulate that AI tools used by the government should prioritize accuracy, fairness, and neutrality, acknowledging uncertainty where information is incomplete or conflicting.
Specifically, the orders promote the use of large language models that stick to factual and scientific standards and avoid manipulating responses to favor ideological dogmas like diversity or social justice agendas. To implement these principles, the White House’s Office of Management and Budget is tasked with providing guidance to federal agencies on procurement policies, ensuring compliance includes contractual language aligned with the new AI standards.
Additionally, the orders revoke previous Biden-era requirements related to diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and climate initiatives for federal data centers, while streamlining procedures for federal approval and construction of new data infrastructure. The Commerce Department is directed to establish a support program offering loans, grants, and tax incentives for infrastructure development, including for projects that enhance AI capabilities abroad. These measures are part of Trump’s broader vision to make the United States a dominant global leader in AI technology, fostering what he calls a “Golden Age for American technological dominance.”
