Tonia Haddix Arrested: ‘Chimp Crazy’ Star Stashes Another Chimp at Home

‘Chimp Crazy’ Star Tonia Haddix Arrested and Hidden Chimp Confiscated

Known as the star of the show dubbed ‘Chimp Crazy,’ Tonia Haddix, a Missouri-based exotic animal broker, has been taken into custody. The 55-year-old was arrested after court authorities ordered her to pay $224,000 in legal fees owed to PETA, which she had previously avoided.

During a recent raid on her residence, officials discovered a hidden chimpanzee living in her basement. Court documents reveal that Haddix was secretly housing a mature female chimpanzee in a makeshift enclosure with blankets, a Gatorade bottle, and leftover candy. The animal was safely removed during a surprise search earlier this month.

The arrest was not directly due to the discovery of the chimp but is part of broader legal troubles. Prosecutors are now using the recent finding as evidence to hold her until her sentencing scheduled for August 7.

Haddix previously gained notoriety for faking her beloved chimp Tonka’s death to prevent him from being relocated to a sanctuary. Tonka was later found alive.

Additional Legal Issues and Allegations

Haddix’s husband, who allegedly resisted authorities during a home inspection, is also facing arrest. The situation has escalated, adding new tension to Haddix’s ongoing legal troubles, which now include charges related to illegal animal housing and evasion of court orders.

These developments mark a significant escalation in the controversy surrounding Haddix’s handling of exotic animals, with authorities intensifying efforts to enforce wildlife regulations and animal welfare standards.
