Malcolm-Jamal Warner Drowns While Swimming with His 8-Year-Old Daughter

Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner Drowns During Costa Rica Vacation

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role on “The Cosby Show,” tragically lost his life while swimming with his 8-year-old daughter during a vacation in Costa Rica. The incident occurred near Cocles Beach in Limon when the father and daughter were caught in a rip current.

Rescue efforts by nearby surfers and a volunteer lifeguard were swift. One surfer managed to pull Warner’s daughter to safety on a surfboard, while Warner was pulled ashore and received 45 minutes of CPR. Despite these efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, with the cause listed as asphyxiation due to submersion.

The authorities confirmed that the duo was struggling against the powerful rip current before succumbing to the water. Warner was 54 years old.

Warner kept his private life discreet, rarely sharing details about his daughter or wife publicly. However, he revealed his daughter’s birthday in an Instagram video back in May, expressing positivity despite life’s challenges. In the clip, he wore a Dodgers cap and had a flower in his ear, a gift from his daughter.

Following his passing, many in Hollywood paid tribute. His former co-star, Raven Symoné, expressed her sorrow on social media:

“Words cannot express the pain and sadness I feel over losing MJW. He was like a big brother—gentle, talented, and a beacon. My heart and hugs go out to his daughter, wife, and mother.”

Warner’s sudden death has shocked fans and colleagues alike, serving as a poignant reminder of the unpredictable power of the sea.
