Eric Adams Applauds Trump for Ending Border Crisis
New York City Mayor Praises Border Securing Measures and Addresses Migrant Crisis
Mayor Eric Adams commended the previous federal administration for making significant progress in controlling the southern border, which he claims has resulted in a decrease in migrant arrivals to the city. He noted that border security efforts under the Trump administration have alleviated some of the city’s strain from the migrant influx.
Adams highlighted that the Biden administration’s failure to maintain border security has had a financial impact on New York, costing taxpayers approximately $7.7 billion over three years. This strain has limited funding for other critical city services. He criticized the response of the current administration, asserting they have not effectively addressed or acknowledged the scale of the crisis.
He emphasized that the city has served over 237,000 migrants since 2022, with about 100 hotels converted into emergency shelters, amid weekly arrivals peaking at 4,000. Adams also acknowledged the presence of violent gang members among some migrants, some of whom had infiltrated the city and appeared at large shelters like the Roosevelt Hotel.
Despite these challenges, Adams conveyed that efforts with state officials and the federal government, including direct meetings with President Biden, stressed the severity of the crisis. He remarked that the increase in border enforcement under Trump had resulted in a dramatic drop in migrant entries, with numbers falling to fewer than 100 weekly arrivals.
The mayor also defended the role of federal agencies such as ICE, stating they are law enforcement entities that assist in managing illegal and dangerous individuals. Over the past few years, the city has faced enormous logistical challenges, including the conversion of about 100 hotels into shelters to house migrants, with some exceeding 4,000 new arrivals weekly.
Adams expressed confidence in the city’s perseverance, attributing the improved situation partly to border security improvements and cooperation with federal authorities. He stressed that despite the difficulties, the city’s government and community leaders rose to the occasion, managing the crisis under complex legal and logistical constraints.
