Man Arrested After Slow-Speed Chase in Rickety Stolen Truck with 3 Popped Tires

Slow-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest in California

A man was taken into custody after an unusually slow police pursuit involving a stolen truck in central Los Angeles. The suspect, driving a damaged truck with three flat tires, moved at a sluggish 5 mph, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to pass him without interference.

Footage captured by local news showed the vehicle crawling through the city, failing to speed up even at red lights, which the driver crossed without issues. Throughout the nearly 90-minute chase, a police cruiser tailed closely, waiting for the truck to run out of steam.

The driver’s erratic maneuvers included swerving into oncoming traffic and bouncing along sidewalks. At one point, he stuck his head out the window and shouted at other drivers, adding to the bizarre scene. Authorities attempted to disable the truck by laying spike strips on the Pacific Coast Highway, but it was only after a PIT maneuver caused the vehicle to spin out that the driver surrendered.

When officers performed the spinning tactic, the suspect exited the vehicle and was quickly detained. Miraculously, no injuries occurred during the chase or arrest.

Additionally, images showed officers arresting the suspect on the ground after the vehicle was immobilized. This incident underscores the unpredictable nature of police pursuits, even those taking place at a snail’s pace.
