JD Vance Responds to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Criticism Over Family Trip

Vice President JD Vance has issued a calm rebuttal following a sharply worded comment from California Governor Gavin Newsom on social media. Newsom had taken aim at Vance after he was seen enjoying a weekend outing at Disneyland with his family, including his wife Usha and their children.

Images and videos of the Vance family’s visit went viral, showing them having a good time at the amusement park. Newsom responded publicly on X (Twitter), criticizing the trip and implying it was indicative of political differences. He wrote, “Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t.”

Vance, unfazed by the remarks, simply replied, “Had a great time, thanks.” Meanwhile, outside the park, about 150 protesters gathered, criticizing Vance, while separate protests occurred in Anaheim, near the site of recent immigration enforcement actions.

Protesters also gathered at the hotel where the Vance family was rumored to be staying. Despite the political tension, the trip was reportedly not a political act; Usha Vance used the occasion to visit Camp Pendleton and read to children of active-duty service members as part of her literacy initiatives.

Newsom, considered a potential 2028 presidential contender, remains embroiled in political disputes, especially with the Trump administration. The California governor has openly clashed with former President Trump, notably after a series of protests and immigration enforcement actions at a marijuana farm, which led to detention of over 200 illegal immigrants. Trump responded by authorizing federal agents to arrest protesters, but a court quickly blocked this order, ruling it unconstitutional.
