Flash Floods Transform Ruidoso Into a River of Chaos

It all began with gentle rain that fell steadily, a familiar sound for residents of Ruidoso. However, this rain persisted relentlessly, growing heavier and louder into the night. By sunset, a destructive wall of water was carving through the town, threatening everything in its path.

The rivers swelled without warning, becoming torrents filled with debris such as logs, vehicles, fences, propane tanks, and broken roads. Many residents had little time to escape, some grabbing only shoes or pets before homes were ripped from their foundations and carried downhill.
