Noah Cyrus Honors Her Late Grandfather in Heartfelt Tribute and New Album Release
Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Noah Cyrus recently released her second album, I Want My Loved Ones to Go with Me, raising heartfelt memories of her late grandfather. The album debuted on July 11, and the day prior, Noah shared a touching tribute on Instagram for what would have been his birthday.
In her post, Noah expressed her emotions, saying, “Happy heavenly birthday to my grandfather, Pappy.” She explained that the album title is inspired by a hymn featured in her song “Apple Tree,” a piece written by her great-grandfather Eldon Lindsey Cyrus and performed by her grandfather, Ron Cyrus, who passed away from lung cancer in 2006.
She added, “The album drops tonight—divine timing, I believe my Pappy is celebrating his big day in heaven with loved ones who left us too soon.” Noah shared childhood photos with Ron and concluded, “Music runs through our veins, connecting us to our ancestors and our true selves… Happy birthday, Pappy. This one’s for you.”
The song “Apple Tree” features Ron’s voice, recalling childhood memories: “All of my thoughts turn back to days of childhood… My father and mother, sisters and brothers, I never dreamed how far we’d roam.”
Reflecting on her grandfather’s influence, Noah explained that the song evokes personal memories of family moments, such as her mother tucking her in and time spent with her dad. “Death doesn’t scare me, but I fear never seeing loved ones together again,” she said.
The album includes collaborations with artists such as Fleet Foxes, Ella Langley, Blake Shelton, and Bill Callahan. Noah will perform in support of her new work at The Ford in Los Angeles on July 11, with a tour scheduled through October.
