Mayor Adams Warns of Dark Days for NYC if Zohran Mamdani Wins
Mayor Warns of Catastrophe if Socialist Candidate Wins NYC Mayor Race
Mayor Eric Adams has expressed strong concerns that a victory by Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani could plunge New York City into chaos, making it unsafe for both residents and law enforcement. He argues Mamdani’s progressive policies, including reducing the jail population at Rikers Island and decentralizing responses to domestic violence calls, could contribute to a surge in crime and a breakdown of order.
Adams pointed to the tragic death of officers Wilbert Mora and Jason Rivera, who were shot in the line of duty during a domestic violence response, as evidence of the dangerous consequences of lax crime policies. He warned that Mamdani’s approach might lead to a resurgence of street violence emanating from the communities where crime often originates.
The mayor also dismissed a lawsuit accusing him of running the NYPD as a criminal enterprise, describing it as unfounded and politically motivated. Adams highlighted his ongoing collaboration with Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, praising her efforts to implement “Q-Teams” to address quality-of-life issues and deploying additional officers to crime hotspots.
Adams amassed political experience from his previous tenure, blaming state bail reform laws and policies enacted under former Governor Andrew Cuomo for exacerbating public safety issues. He insists his track record of reducing crime sets him apart from opponents, emphasizing that he has had to fix the mess left by previous administrations.
Although Mamdani did not comment, critics aligned with Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa pointed to the lawsuit and progressive policies as reasons why Adams should be replaced. Sliwa emphasized the city’s ongoing safety concerns, and Cuomo’s spokesperson dismissed Adams’s claims.
Despite fears about New York’s future if Mamdani wins, Adams reaffirmed his commitment to stay and continue fighting for the city, describing himself as a true New Yorker who will not leave his hometown behind.
