Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon Fail to Agree on Gyokeres Move Ahead of Asia Tour

Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon Fail to Finalize Victor Gyokeres Transfer in Time for Asia Tour

Arsenal’s efforts to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres have encountered a setback, with the Swedish forward not expected to join the team for their upcoming pre-season tour in Asia. The clubs are close to reaching an agreement on a transfer fee believed to be around £55 million, with additional bonuses, and Gyokeres has agreed to a five-year contract. However, the deal remains unsettled due to disagreements over the payment structure.

The delay means Gyokeres will not be traveling with Arsenal to Asia, where the team is scheduled to face AC Milan, Newcastle, and Tottenham. The transfer negotiations have stalled over issues such as bonus payments, the timing of installments, and disagreements over solidarity contributions and training compensation, with Sporting pushing for a larger upfront payment.

If the transfer is completed soon, Gyokeres could potentially debut for Arsenal in their first pre-season match at the end of the Asian tour, scheduled against Villarreal on August 6. The striker, who scored 54 goals last season for Sporting, has enjoyed a successful stint in Portugal, netting 97 times in 102 appearances, and is considered one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.

Gyokeres joined Sporting in 2023 from Coventry for around £20 million, scoring 43 goals in 2.5 seasons. He has previously expressed a desire to return to England’s top flight, aiming to prove himself after a less successful spell at Brighton. His transfer to Arsenal would end a lengthy search for a high-quality centre forward and bolster their squad as they aim for their first Premier League title in over two decades.

In the meantime, the team continues their preparations in Asia, with upcoming matches against prominent European clubs before returning to London to resume their pre-season fixtures.
