Jude Bellingham Faces Long Injury Break After Shoulder Surgery After Two Years in Pain

Jude Bellingham Requires Shoulder Surgery After Playing in Pain for Two Years

Jude Bellingham is set to be sidelined for several months following a successful shoulder operation. The Real Madrid midfielder endured ongoing shoulder problems after dislocating it during a La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano in November 2023, which he has played through while managing the pain with a sling.

He delayed surgery for over a year due to commitments with last summer’s European Championship and more recently because of Real Madrid’s participation in the Club World Cup. Despite the injury, Bellingham continued to play, often strapped for support, and expressed frustration about the persistent discomfort.

The player shared on social media that he had undergone surgery earlier this week, posting a selfie from his hospital bed in a gown, with his arm in a sling. He thanked the medical team for their support and indicated he is starting the road to recovery. His England team-mate Morgan Rogers also wished him well publicly.

The injury means Bellingham will likely miss at least the first eight La Liga matches and two Champions League fixtures, including international games scheduled in September and October. It is believed he might return when Madrid face Getafe on October 19, after completing an initial month of recovery with his shoulder stabilized and arm in a sling.

During his time at Madrid, Bellingham contributed notably, securing a goal and an assist in the Club World Cup and tallying 15 goals and equal assists last season across all competitions. His surgery was performed by Drs. Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace under the club’s medical supervision.

His recovery will involve a minimum of one month of immobilization before rehabilitation begins, with his potential return coinciding with Madrid’s league match against Getafe. Despite the setback, Bellingham remains optimistic about returning to action soon.
