On July 3rd, Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, lost their lives when their vehicle crashed early in the morning in northern Spain. The 28-year-old player had recently celebrated his marriage to his childhood sweetheart in Portugal, coinciding with a successful season for both his club and national team.

In response, Liverpool announced that Jota’s number 20 would be retired across all teams after consulting with his family and widow. The club has further extended this tribute via their website, now featuring a ‘forever’ section in the men’s squad listing, marking his profile with a lasting memorial.
