NJ Transit Trespasser Fatally Struck, Disrupts Morning Commute

Fatal Incident Disrupts NJ Transit Services Near Newark Airport

A person was fatally struck and killed by an NJ Transit train near Newark Airport, causing significant delays during the morning commute. The incident occurred as ongoing efforts to cross the Hudson River were already impacted by a bus that was stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel.

The deadly event, first reported around 8:15 a.m., led to delays of up to an hour for trains traveling through Penn Station in New York. Shortly afterward, at around 8:40 a.m., a bus operating in the Lincoln Tunnel’s exclusive bus lane experienced a mechanical failure, further contributing to congestion. No injuries were reported from the bus incident, which was not involved in a collision.

The delay caused by the bus failure was exacerbated by additional disabled vehicles in the vicinity, according to a spokesperson from the Port Authority. Efforts are ongoing to manage the situation as train ticketing system-wide continues to honor cross-transportation privileges, including PATH stations in Hoboken, Newark Penn, and 33rd Street in New York.

Additional details about the individual who was struck and how the incident occurred have not been released. Fortunately, the victims and the suspect involved in another recent incident earlier that day, a stabbing on an NJ Transit Light Rail train in Newark, were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
