Exclusive: Ex-NYPD Boss Tom Donlon on ‘Morally Corrupt’ NYC Mayor Eric Adams
Former NYPD Leader Criticizes Mayor Eric Adams
Former interim Police Commissioner Tom Donlon has publicly condemned Mayor Eric Adams, describing him as a “morally corrupt” leader who appointed incompetent individuals to oversee the NYPD. Donlon’s criticism comes after he filed a detailed lawsuit accusing Adams and his close associates of running the police department in a manner akin to organized crime.
In interviews, Donlon claimed he was effectively sidelined as commissioner, with a corrupt group of top cops secretly controlling the department. He alleges that Adams ignored his efforts, told him to let his cronies operate freely, and dismissed concerns about misconduct within the force. Donlon’s lawsuit accuses several of Adams’ police allies—former chiefs and deputy mayor Kaz Daughtry—of rewarding loyalty with promotions and overtime fraud, especially during a scandal involving sex-for-overtime stories.
Despite his assertions, Adams and City Hall officials dismissed Donlon as a disgruntled former employee. They questioned his mental fitness and criticized his leadership record, claiming he was experiencing cognitive decline. Donlon refuted these claims, asserting he was fully capable and that his allegations were rooted in truth.
Prior to his lawsuit, Donlon was appointed in September to help repair the department’s tarnished image after a federal raid on former Chief Edward Caban’s home. However, soon after his appointment, federal investigators searched his residence for historical classified documents.
Supporters like former FBI agent Joseph Pistone praised Donlon’s integrity. Pistone, known as “Donnie Brasco,” publicly stated he saw no flaws in Donlon’s character, contrasting sharply with political attacks aimed at discrediting him amidst the controversy.
