Xhaka Targeted by Surprise Club for Premier League Return, Bayer Leverkusen Decides Soon

Granit Xhaka Linked with Premier League Return Amidst Bayer Leverkusen Future Uncertainty

The former Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka, is reportedly attracting interest from a Premier League club seeking to bring him back to England this summer. Xhaka, who transferred from Arsenal to Bayer Leverkusen in 2023 for £21.4 million, has enjoyed significant success in Germany, including winning the Bundesliga and German Cup titles in the 2024-25 season under coach Xabi Alonso.

Despite his achievements, Xhaka’s future at Leverkusen remains uncertain. Club officials have indicated that a decision regarding his departure will be made soon, as they finalize their squad for the upcoming season. Sunderland, recently promoted to the Premier League, is believed to be keen on acquiring the experienced midfielder, hoping he will lead their push for survival in the top flight.

The Black Cats are prepared to compete with Saudi clubs, notably Neom, who are also interested in signing Xhaka, who still has three years remaining on his contract. Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, confirmed that interest exists but nothing has been settled yet:

“There is interest, but nothing has become concrete so far. We are currently finalizing the squad, and at some point, we need to finalize decisions about the core team, including Granit,” he said.

Leverkusen has already made notable signings this window, including the arrivals of Habib Diarra, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, and Reinildo. The club’s management expects a decision on Xhaka’s future to be made soon as the transfer window progresses.

Xhaka’s experience and leadership qualities make him a valuable addition for any team, and his potential return to the Premier League is viewed as a significant development this summer.
