Liverpool in Talks with Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike Amid Isak Pursuit

Liverpool Opens Negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike Amidst Alexander Isak Pursuit

Liverpool has reportedly initiated discussions with Eintracht Frankfurt concerning the potential transfer of Hugo Ekitike, following the club’s rejection of Newcastle United’s €80 million (£70 million) bid for the striker.

The Reds are also aiming to challenge Newcastle’s pursuit of Alexander Isak, with reports suggesting Liverpool might surpass the British transfer record to sign the Swedish international. Newcastle remains firm on keeping Isak, who is under contract until 2029, having recently committed to Frankfurt last summer.

Competing for new talent, Liverpool has previously set a record transfer fee of £116 million for Florian Wirtz and may be willing to spend up to £125 million on Isak if negotiations come to fruition. The club is eager to bolster their attacking options after securing their 20th Premier League title, with additional targets such as Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa also under consideration.

Meanwhile, Newcastle has attempted to lure Ekitike back to St James’ Park on multiple occasions but has yet to acquire new players this window, despite selling Sean Longstaff to Leeds United. Liverpool’s interest comes amidst a busy transfer period, with the club also rebuffing an initial offer from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz.

Eintracht Frankfurt is holding firm, aware of Ekitike’s contract until 2029, which could complicate negotiations. The 23-year-old French striker has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, who previously considered signing him before acquiring Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
