Solskjaer Eyes Former Man United Flop at Besiktas Amid Bonus Dispute

Former Manchester United Player Linked with Besiktas Amid Contract Dispute

Promising to join a Turkish club is a Dutch forward currently involved in a dispute with his current team over unpaid wages. This has reportedly drawn the interest of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the manager of Besiktas, who previously managed the player at Manchester United.

The player in question, Memphis Depay, spent two seasons at Manchester United between 2015 and 2017, scoring only seven goals in 53 appearances. He left the club a year before Solskjaer took over as manager. Since then, Depay has played for Lyon, where he scored 76 goals across five seasons, as well as stints at Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Depay’s current contract with Corinthians in Brazil has a year remaining, but relations have soured following a wages dispute. The Brazilian club owes him approximately £625,000, with an additional £1.25 million in bonus payments due in September. He has also reportedly missed training over the unpaid wages, which has escalated concerns over his future.

Turkish outlets report that Besiktas has been granted permission to negotiate with Depay, who is eager to move, provided personal terms are agreed upon. The move hinges on resolving the financial issues and reaching a mutually acceptable agreement between the player and the Turkish club.

Having left Manchester United after a challenging spell, Depay has since enjoyed success in France with Lyon and later played for top European clubs. His performances have made him the Netherlands’ joint top scorer alongside Robin van Persie, boosting his profile among clubs seeking experienced forwards.
