Jude Bellingham’s Return Delayed: Real Madrid Star Faces Shoulder Surgery This Week
Jude Bellingham Scheduled for Shoulder Surgery, Expected to Be Out Several Months
Jude Bellingham is set to undergo a shoulder surgery this week after enduring persistent issues with his shoulder since 2023. The Real Madrid midfielder had delayed surgery to participate in major tournaments, including the Champions League, Euro 2024, and the Club World Cup.
Having worn shoulder supports during matches for both club and country, Bellingham expressed frustration last month, stating, “I’m fed up with the brace. I’m ready to have a free shoulder and a free body.” The operation aims to resolve his long-standing shoulder problem, which has affected his performance.
The recovery period is estimated to be around three months, but if complications arise, he could be sidelined for up to four months. This means Bellingham might miss at least the first eight La Liga fixtures, the initial two Champions League matches, and the September and October international breaks. His tentative return could be against Getafe in mid-October after the international hiatus.
Post-surgery, he will need at least a month with his shoulder immobilized in a sling to facilitate healing. Despite the injury, Bellingham participated in all six Club World Cup matches this summer, contributing a goal and an assist, helping Madrid reach the semi-finals.
Last season, the 22-year-old scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists across all competitions, earning him a spot in La Liga’s Team of the Season and securing the Player of the Season award in his debut year in Spain.
His absence will be a significant setback for Madrid as they aim for domestic and European success this campaign.
He is expected to return to action around mid-October if his rehabilitation progresses as planned.
