Ex-Premier League Boss Hospitalized with Serious Airway Inflammation Before New Club Debut

Former Premier League Manager, 49, Hospitalized with Serious Upper Airway Inflammation Before New Club’s First Training

The Croatian coach Ivan Juric, previously at Southampton, has been admitted to hospital after developing a severe inflammation of his upper airways. Juric was preparing to lead his first training session as the new head coach of Atalanta, having recently replaced Gian Piero Gasperini.

Juric, who managed Southampton for just 16 matches following their relegation last season, contracted a bacterial infection that caused significant swelling in his airways. An official club statement confirmed: “Ivan Juric was hospitalized at the Bolognini Hospital in Seriate due to serious inflammation of the upper airways, complicated by a bacterial infection of the epiglottis, treated with intravenous antibiotics.”

Fortunately, Juric is reportedly making good progress, with the club stating that he is “significantly improving” and expects to be discharged in the coming days.

Juric, age 49, has a coaching career including stints at Serie A clubs Roma, Torino, and Genoa. His appointment at Atalanta was announced in June on a two-year contract.
